Why is the organization called Grandmas Gifts?
This organization was founded in 1993, by eleven year old Emily Douglas, in memory of her grandmother Norma Ackison of Ironton, Ohio. Norma passed away in 1991 after losing her battle with breast cancer. She was raised in depression era, poverty stricken Appalachia and as an adult and owner of a small business, Norma and her husband gave back to the community that helped to raise her and her impoverish siblings. With her passing Emily knew that she could not let cancer be the final victor!
What makes Grandmas Gifts different than most other organizations?
The totally awesome part about Grandmas Gifts is that this organization is run by volunteer youth & young adults, meaning that 100% of our donors donations of go to the cause! Grandmas Gifts operates as a donor advise fund through the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (Since 2009) and The Columbus Foundation (since 2002), making monetary donations tax-deductable.
